The Parenting Puzzle
The Parenting Puzzle Nurturing Programme is a recognised 10 week programme, consisting of 2 hours per week. The aim of the course is to build on existing parenting skills and support parents & carers to create happy and healthy relationships with their children and to learn techniques to enable this. There is also a 4 week Parenting Workshop Programme which is aimed at Early Years. This programme can benefit families that are unable to commit to 10 weeks, but can also be an introduction with a view to moving on to the 10 week programme. The Parenting Puzzle is run by many children’s centres in Surrey and is supported by Surrey nurturing links. http://surreynurturinglinks.org.uk/
Topics covered include: Giving Praise, Positive Discipline, Choices & Consequences, Time Out to calm down and Behaviours to ignore.
I trained to deliver the programme in March 2012 and have since gone on to deliver five of the 10 week programmes and one of the 4 week programmes. In November 2013 I was awarded an outstanding accolade alongside my co-facilitator at the time, for The Parenting Puzzle during an Ofsted inspection at Clarendon Children’s Centre in Ashford, Surrey.
Where the programme originated: American child psychologist Dr Stephen J Bavolek developed the Nurturing Programme in the 1970s. Bavolek researched dysfunctional and abusive family interactions; he identified four destructive parental behaviour patterns and developed the Nurturing Programme to counter these. https://familylinks.org.uk/about-us/at-a-glance/the-nurturing-programme
